Liverpool FC are unlikely to sign Real Madrid playmaker Marco Asensio in the summer transfer window, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Reds have been linked with a surprise swoop to sign the Spain international from the Champions League winners ahead of the new season.

Asensio has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot at los Blancos despite having a huge reputation in La Liga.

Nabil Fekir was thought to be very close to becoming a new Liverpool FC player last month following lengthy negotiations.

However, a deal fell through due to concerns about a long standing knee problem to force the Reds look at alternative options.

Asensio is being touted as a potential signing to bolster Klopp’s attack following Philippe Coutinho’s move to FC Barcelona back in January.

Sky Sports News reporter Sheth believes Asensio is unlikely to move to Liverpool FC in the summer transfer window.

“Fekir and Asensio would cost a lot of money,” Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast.

“There is a tentative interest but Real Madrid are unlikely to sell someone who they rate very highly and is part of their plans.”

The 22-year-old scored 11 times in 53 games in all competitions during the 2017-18 season at the Spanish giants.

The Reds signed Brazil international Fabinho in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco last month.

Guinea international Naby Keita has also linked up with the Liverpool FC team-mates following his £48m switch from RB Leipzig.
