Lyon manager replies to question about Nabil Fekir moving to Liverpool FC
Lyon manager Bruno Genesio opens the door for Nabil Fekir to move to Liverpool FC
Nabil Fekir will seize the opportunity to sign for Liverpool FC from AS Monaco this summer, according to Lyon boss Bruno Genesio.
The France international has been regularly linked with a move to Liverpool FC since the conclusion of the Premier League campaign last month.
Fekir was thought to be close on a £57m move to Liverpool FC from Lyon earlier this month as the Reds looked to improve their attacking options.
However, the France international’s deal fell through after concerns emerged about the 24-year-old’s long-standing injury problem.
Fekir was even reported to have selected his number at the Anfield outfit before the proposed transfer collapsed.
The Lyon skipper is currently representing France at the World Cup in Russia, although Didier Deschamps has used the playmaker as an impact substitute.
Reports in the English media continue to link Fekir with a move to Liverpool FC despite protracted negotiations between all three parties.
Lyon manager Genesio believes Fekir would relish the chance to move to Liverpool FC if a deal came to fruition.
“If there is a possibility like with Liverpool, Nabil will certainly seize the opportunity, once both parties agree.
“I am working under the assumption that [Fekir] will stay with us. He wants to take the next step.
“I would be happy to keep him. I think that he is looking at two possibilities: to stay to play the Champions’ League with us or to leave to join a bigger club.
“I would have liked him to play more for France. There is still, I hope three matches to come with the French national team.”
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
The Reds lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev last term.
