Reporter claims Liverpool FC could sign 26-year-old as Nabil Fekir alternative
Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth believes Liverpool FC could look to sign Xherdan Shaqiri as an alternative to Nabil Fekir
Liverpool FC could enter the race to sign Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City if the Reds are unable to sign Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir this summer, according to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The Reds were thought to be close to concluding a deal to sign the France international earlier in the summer transfer window but a transfer move failed to come to fruition last month.
The 24-year-old completed a medical at Liverpool FC and Fekir even selected his shirt number at the Merseyside outfit.
The France attacker’s proposed move fell through due to concerns about a long-standing knee problem.
Liverpool FC have been linked with a swoop to sign Stoke City forward Shaqiri as an alternative to Fekir.
The Swiss midfielder is thought to be available in a deal worth around £13m following Stoke’s relegation to the Championship.
Sky Sports News reporter Sheth believes Liverpool FC could enter the race to sign Shaqiri if a deal for Fekir fails to materialise.
“If Fekir doesn’t happen, they could go back in for him,” Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast. “We haven’t heard anything on him at the moment. He will leave Stoke.”
The Reds signed Brazil international Fabinho in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco last month.
Guinea international Naby Keita has also linked up with the Liverpool FC team-mates following his £48m switch from RB Leipzig.
