Journalist reveals Virgil van Dijk wants new Liverpool FC signing
Daily Record reporter Ian McGarry claims Virgil van Dijk has asked Liverpool FC to sign a new centre-half partner
Virgil van Dijk has asked Liverpool FC to sign a new defensive partner for their club record signing, Daily Record journalist Ian McGarry has claimed.
The Reds signed Van Dijk in a world record transfer for a defender back in January after Liverpool FC brought the Netherlands international to Anfield in a £75m deal from Southampton.
Liverpool FC managed to get to the Champions League final back in May thanks to Van Dijk’s leadership at the back alongside excellent performances from full-backs Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Reds lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the European showpiece after German goalkeeper Loris Karius made two big mistakes to allow Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale get on the score sheet.
Liverpool FC signed AS Roma and Brazil number one Alisson Becker in a world record £67m deal to replace Karius and Simon Mignolet ahead of the new Premier League season.
Dejan Lovren declared himself one of the best centre-halves in the world following Croatia’s run to the World Cup final before a 4-2 loss to champions France.
However, the former Lyon defender has been guilty of reckless mistakes over the past couple of seasons despite some improvement under Jurgen Klopp since Brendan Rodgers’ dismissal.
Daily Record reporter McGarry has revealed that Van Dijk has requested that Liverpool FC sign a new centre-half this summer.
“I am told by people close to Van Dijk that he has requested a new central defensive partner through Jurgen Klopp,” McGarry told the Transfer Window podcast.
“He wants the defence to be up to standard as it possibly can be.”
