The Liverpool FC defender outlines his targets for the 2018-19 Premier League campaign
Virgil van Dijk is hoping that he can improve at Liverpool FC next season.
The Netherlands international became the most expensive defender in the world after Liverpool FC signed Van Dijk in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old, who is Liverpool FC’s most expensive signing, helped the Reds to reach their first Champions League final in 11 seasons before a 3-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid in Kiev.
Van Dijk forged an impressive partnership with Croatia international Dejan Lovren to help Liverpool FC secure a fourth-placed finish and Champions League football for another campaign.
The Dutch star has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League but th
e former Celtic man still hasn’t won any silverware in English football since his move to the Saints in 2015.
Speaking to Liverpool FC’s website about his aims for the 2018-19 Premier League campaign, Van Dijk said:
“Like I said when I arrived, I want to achieve everything possible with this beautiful club.
“We’re going to work our socks off and do everything possible to make it happen this season. We were very close to silverware but obviously not close enough.
“I can improve in any aspect of the game. At the moment, it’s getting back to full fitness, making sure I’m getting better and stronger than I was before. I will work every day and do everything possible and no doubt it will happen.”
The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
Liverpool FC have signed Brazil international Fabinho in a £39m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco back in May.
The Reds brought in Guinea international Naby Keita in a £48m switch from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.
