Charlie Adam has slammed Liverpool FC’s new signing Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Reds signed the Switzerland international in a £13.5m deal from relegated Stoke City earlier this month.

Liverpool FC won the race to sign the World Cup star after Stoke were demoted to the Premier League despite Shaqiri’s eight goals last term.

The former Inter Milan forward scored 15 goals in 95 games in all competitions over the past three seasons at the Britannia Stadium.

However, former Liverpool FC star Adam, who currently plays for Stoke, was critical of Shaqiri’s performances throughout the 2017-18 Premier League season.

Asked during an interview with talkSPORT whether Shaqiri failed to turn up at Stoke last season, Adam said: “Was he one of them? Oh, definitely.

“When the chips are down you look at your big players, you want your big players to bring magic in one moment in the season, and it times we felt like the so-called big players in the squad never turned up for us and never performed.

“Yeah, everybody else could help, but for all the plaudits to so-called bigger players we getting from certain members of the management staff last season – they weren’t producing.

“But, listen, he’s gone now. We move on and we look to the future. The future for us at the moment is in the Championship.”

Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League.

The Reds started their summer spending spree with the signing of Brazil international Fabinho in a £39m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

Liverpool FC added RB Leipzig star Naby Keita in a £48m deal after the Reds agreed a fee with the Bundesliga outfit last term.

The Merseyside outfit swooped to sign Shaqiri in a cut-price summer deal from Stoke City.

The 18-time English champions spent a world record £66m fee on Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker from Serie A giants AS Roma.
