Liverpool FC open talks with 26-year-old World Cup star – report
Liverpool FC have opened discussions with Xherdan Shaqiri with view to a potential summer deal, according to a report
Liverpool FC have opened negotiations with Stoke City forward Xherdan Shaqiri with view to a summer swoop for the Stoke City star, according to a report in England.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the Potters are resigned to losing Shaqiri following their relegation the Championship under Paul Lambert last season.
The same article states that Shaqiri has a £13.5m contract release clause that Liverpool FC would be able to activate to sign the Swiss playmaker in a cut-price deal.
According to the same story, Jurgen Klopp is keen to get a deal for Shaqiri completed to add more attacking depth to his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
Shaqiri is currently on holiday following his participation at the World Cup as the Liverpool FC squad returned for pre-season training last week.
The 26-year-old scored eight goals in 36 games in the Premier League last season but the Swiss playmaker was unable to help Stoke avoid relegation to the Championship.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League last term to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League.
The Reds lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final last season.
