Journalist claims Liverpool FC confident of completing third summer signing
Daily Mirror reporter David Maddock believes Xherdan Shaqiri will move to Liverpool FC despite late interest from Lazio
Liverpool FC are confident of wrapping up a deal to sign Xherdan Shaqiri despite late interest from Lazio, according to Daily Mirror reporter David Maddock.
The Reds are rumoured to have agreed a £13.5m fee with Stoke City to bring the Switzerland international to Anfield in the summer transfer window.
Shaqiri is in line to secure a wage boost at the Merseyside outfit despite his relegation with Stoke to the Premier League last season.
The 26-year-old will add greater depth to Jurgen Klopp’s squad as Liverpool FC look to challenge for the Champions League and the Premier League next season.
Serie A giants Lazio were thought to have made a late bid to sign the Switzerland international following his excellent performances at the World Cup.
However, Daily Mirror reporter Maddock confirmed that Liverpool FC are very close to finalising a deal for Shaqiri in the current transfer market.
Maddock wrote on Twitter: “Liverpool now very confident of completing transfer for Shaqiri within days, despite serious late counter offer from Lazio. Negotiations with Stoke at advanced stage, fee more than the £12m originally believed to be detailed in release clause.”
Liverpool FC have already signed Brazil international Fabinho in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the summer transfer window.
Naby Keita linked up with his new Liverpool FC team-mates last week after the Reds agreed a £48m fee with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig last summer.
