Luke Shaw is determined to try and win back his place in the Manchester United first team next season but Jose Mourinho remains unconvinced, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mail is reporting that the England left-back wants to impress Mourinho this season after struggling to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Old Trafford since the Portuguese coach’s arrival at the club back in May 2016.

Shaw has reported back to Carrington for pre-season training in recent weeks as he looks to try and earn a spot in the first team at Old Trafford from next season.

The defender’s current contract is due to expire at the end of next season and according to the same article, he is in no rush to sign a new deal with the Red Devils.

According to the same report though, Shaw could be set for a battle to win Mourinho over, with the Portuguese coach reportedly already looking into the possibility of bringing in reinforcements at left-back ahead of next season.

The same story says that Manchester United are keen to get Shaw to sign a new contract at Old Trafford to prevent him from leaving for nothing next summer, but they face an uphill struggle in convincing him to do so.
