Michael Carrick: What I really like about Man United star
The Man United legend lavishes praise on Jesse Lingard for his movement in the Red Devils team
Michael Carrick believes Jesse Lingard’s best attribute is his movement in the Manchester United team.
The England international enjoyed what many of described as a breakthrough season at the 20-time English champions in 2017-18.
Lingard managed to establish himself as a regular in Jose Mourinho’s side despite the influx of top talent at Old Trafford over the past 12 months.
The 25-year-old scored eight times and made five assists in 33 appearances in the Premier League last season to produce some prolific form.
In fact, only Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial scored more Premier League goals than Lingard for Manchester United last term.
Lingard netted five times in the FA Cup and the League Cup to help Manchester United reach the latter stages of the competition.
Manchester United legend Carrick opened up about what he believes is Lingard’s best attribute.
“I think his movement – he moves off the ball very well. It’s something that sounds quite simple, but it’s difficult to defend against,” Carrick told Man United’s website.
He added: “He senses where the space is and how to use it. I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s a dribbler with skills and tricks but he’s dynamic.
“How he plays, he is unique in some ways. You don’t see so much of that in the game as everyone wants to get on the ball and do something on the ball. Off the ball, he’s very effective.”
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last term to secure their best finish since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley back in May following Eden Hazard’s winner.
Manchester United ended up 19 points adrift of Premier League champions Manchester City.
