Paul Scholes replies when asked if Man United can win the title
Man United legend Paul Scholes believes the Red Devils will struggle to win the Premier League title
Paul Scholes believes Manchester United will find it difficult to win the Premier League title next season.
The Red Devils will be looking to end a six-year title drought in the 2018-19 Premier League campaign under Jose Mourinho.
Manchester United ended up in second place in the Premier League table last season to secure their best finish since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
The Red Devils finished ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool FC despite their top-four rivals being credited with playing a more pleasing style of football.
However, Manchester United trailed Premier League champions Manchester City by 19 points in the title race to highlight the size of the gap between the two derby rivals.
Manchester United have signed Brazil international Fred in a £52m deal from Shakhtar Donetsk earlier this summer, while Diogo Dalot completed a £17m switch from FC Porto to Manchester United.
Mourinho has also added veteran English goalkeeper Lee Grant to their squad in an underwhelming £1.5m switch from Stoke City in the summer transfer window.
Asked about Manchester United’s ability to win the Premier League title in the upcoming Premier League campaign, Scholes to beIN Sport:
“Every year when United don’t win something, it’s a disaster.
“He’s obviously got to try to win the league, but there’s so many good teams now, it’s going to be difficult.
“He doesn’t look happy to me. It’s a team that grind out results rather than really impress you and that’s probably what he’s happy with. That’s where he’s been at his best over the years.
“I think he’s got every resource available to him to have a team to win the league. That’s what the fans expect and what I’m sure his bosses above him expect.”
Manchester United lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final last term.
