Manager replies to speculation linking 25-year-old with Man United move
Claude Puel seems to think that Man United target Harry Maguire will not leave Leicester City this summer
Claude Puel has insisted that he is fully expecting to see Harry Maguire stay at Leicester City this summer, despite reported interest from Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has been touted as a potential target for the Red Devils this summer as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his defensive options at Old Trafford ahead of the new campaign.
Maguire earned lots of praise for his strong performances for England as the defender helped the Three Lions reach the semi-finals of the World Cup in Russia.
The defender is currently enjoying an extended summer holiday before reporting back to the King Power Stadium to begin his pre-season preparations.
And despite Manchester United’s widely-reported interest in signing Maguire, Leicester City boss Puel seems to think that the defender is set to stay at the King Power Stadium beyond the summer transfer window.
Puel is quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “I am confident about the presence of Harry for this season. He is a very good player for us.
“I was not surprised about his performance during this World Cup. We saw his progress during the second half of the season.
“He was great and played very well. It was not a surprise to see him perform well at this level in the international game.
“Of course for us he is a very good player – I wait for him with impatience because we need Harry and we need also Jamie [Vardy] because they are Leicester.”
Manchester United are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they look to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League next season.
Mourinho is under pressure to deliver a trophy next term after the Red Devils finished second and without any silverware last season.
