Rio Ferdinand hails Man United star after France World Cup win
Rio Ferdinand reflects on Paul Pogba's performances for France at the World Cup in Russia
Rio Ferdinand lavished praise on Paul Pogba after the Manchester United midfielder helped France to win the World Cup on Sunday.
The midfielder was in fine form for his country as he helped Les Bleus to win the World Cup for the first time since their triumph on home soil back in 1998.
The Manchester United midfielder was often criticised for failing to produce consistent performances for the Red Devils last season as they ended up without a trophy under Jose Mourinho.
However, Pogba was one of the players of the tournament in Russia as he helped his country secured a thrilling 4-2 win over Croatia in the final on Sunday to claim the trophy.
Pogba has struggled to produce consistent form for Manchester United since his move back to the club from Juventus in the summer of 2016.
And Red Devils defender Ferdinand has admitted that he has been hugely impressed by the way Pogba has been performing for France at the World Cup.
Speaking to ITV Sport, Ferdinand said: “He showed in this tournament he has it all – the defensive discipline and attacking – but it hasn’t come together yet in a Manchester United shirt.
“Mourinho has to unlock this Pogba at United. The reason why United paid all this money is because at Juventus he was affecting games.
“But at United he isn’t receiving the ball from an Andrea Pirlo or somebody.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United will be hoping to challenge for the Premier League title next season as they look to try and win the trophy for the first time since their victory under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
