The striker’s situation at Old Trafford has been something of a source of speculation this summer amid reports that the 22-year-old is keen on a move away from the club.
Martial struggled to hold down a regular starting spot under Mourinho last season and his agent was quoted as saying that he was keen on a move away from Manchester United.
However, the French striker has already reported back to Manchester United to begin pre-season training, and he is currently in the US with the rest of his team-mates.
Manchester United will be without a handful of their key attacking players at the start of the season due to their involvement in the World Cup.
And Mourinho has appeared to suggest that Martial will play a key role in attack for the Red Devils in the first few weeks of the new campaign.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Mourinho said: “It will be important for us to work with [Juan] Mata, Alexis, Martial which we think will be the players to have in attack for the start of the season.
“No [Romelu] Lukaku no [Jesse] Lingard, no [Marcus] Rashford, if Alexis isn’t working with us for 10/15 days it will be very bad.”
Manchester United will be aiming to at least challenge for the Premier League title next season after they finished second and without a trophy last term.
