Jose Mourinho sends message to ‘absolutely brilliant’ Man United star
Jose Mourinho congratulates Paul Pogba after his fine performances for France at this summer's World Cup
Jose Mourinho has congratulated Paul Pogba for the part the midfielder played in helping France to win the World Cup this summer.
The Manchester United midfielder was in fine form throughout the tournament in Russia as he helped the national team to win their first World Cup trophy since their triumph on home soil back in 1998.
Pogba had been widely criticised for his failure to produce consistent performances for Manchester United last season as the Red Devils finished the campaign without a trophy.
However, the 25-year-old was in top form for his national team in Russia as he helped Didier Deschamps’ side to triumph in the final against Croatia.
And Mourinho has revealed that he sent Pogba a text message to congratulate him on his performances following his fine displays.
Mourinho is quoted as saying by Metro: “For Paul I think it’s the first World Cup he goes to, to be world champion can only be fantastic, it’s a young team, apart from [Olivier] Giroud and [Hugo] Lloris, they are all young, they have more Euros and World Cups to play together, the future for him in France national team can only be brilliant.
“I hope that he understands why he was very good.
“I think that’s the point about his performance level, his contribution to a winning team, for him to understand why he was so good, especially in the second part of the competition, the quarter-final, semi-final and final where he was in my opinion absolutely brilliant.”
Manchester United are currently in the US as they continue their pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign.
Mourinho will be looking to steer his Manchester United side to Premier League glory next season as they look to try and win the title for the first time since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
