Matteo Darmian has told Jose Mourinho that he wants to leave Manchester United this summer.

The Italian defender’s future at Old Trafford has been a source of speculation this summer because of his lack of playing time under the Portuguese coach at Old Trafford last season.

Indeed, the 28-year-old only started a total of five games for Manchester United last season and made a total of 10 appearances in all competitions.

As he approaches the prime years of his career, it is no surprise that Darmian would be keen on a move away from Old Trafford in search of some regular playing time.

And the defender has now admitted that he is considering his future and has already spoken to Mourinho about leaving the club this summer.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Sky Sports, Darmian said: “I want to play more regularly. Last season, I didn’t play much, that’s my objective and my ambition.

“That’s why I spoke with the manager and also with the club about my future.

“I want to leave but we will see what happens because we don’t know.”

Manchester United will be aiming to be among the main contenders for the Premier League title next season as they aim to win the top flight trophy for the first time since 2013.

The Red Devils finished in second place in the Premier League table last term and without a trophy in Mourinho’s second season in charge at the club.
