Alexis Sanchez has admitted that he wants his “friend” Romelu Lukaku to help to fire Belgium to glory at the World Cup this summer.

The Chile international is enjoying a rare summer off after his national team failed to qualify for the tournament in Russia this year.

However, the Manchester United attacker has been watching closely from afar and says that he wants Lukaku to help to fire the Red Devils to glory at the World Cup this summer.

Lukaku has been in strong form for Belgium and scored four goals in his first two games for Roberto Martinez’s side in Russia to help them to finish top of their group.

And speaking in an interview with Fox Sports, Sanchez said: “I feel angry not to go, we could have been there, but I want Belgium to be world champion for my friend Lukaku.

“He is fine, on fire, I hope he is the World Cup top goal-scorer.

“We are talking every day on WhatsApp, we go everywhere together [in England], we talk about what the team lacks. We get along very well. I think Belgium will be world champion.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United confirmed that they had agreed a deal for Marouane Fellaini to sign a new contract until 2020 on Friday.

The Red Devils are still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as Jose Mourinho looks to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League next season.

Manchester United finished in second place and without a trophy last term following Sanchez’s arrival from Arsenal back in January.
