The 29-year-old’s future at Stamford Bridge has been a constant source of uncertainty this summer after the Blues finished in fifth place and won the FA Cup last season.
Willian struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge last season and that has led to speculation that he could be on his way out of the west London club this summer.
Manchester United have long been linked with a move to sign the Brazilian attacker and there has been fresh speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford this summer.
FC Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in signing Willian this summer as the Spanish side look to bolster their attacking line-up ahead of next season.
Now, Sunday Times reporter Castles has confirmed that Manchester United do indeed have a strong interest in signing Willian this summer.
Speaking in an interview on the Transfer Window podcast, Castles said: “He tried to sign Willian last year.
“He would have taken him had it been possible to get him out of Chelsea… Since then, we’ve had the catastrophic season.
“We saw Willian’s reaction Conte after winning the FA Cup. Willian is one of several players who wants to leave.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United completed their third signing of the summer last week when they tied up a deal to bring veteran goalkeeper Lee Grant to Old Trafford from Stoke.
