Belgian journalist claims Man United no longer want 29-year-old
Belgian reporter claims Manchester United no longer want to sign Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld
Manchester United are no longer interested in a deal to sign Toby Alderweireld, according to Belgian reporter Kristof Terreur.
The Red Devils have been linked with a swoop to sign the Belgium international in the current transfer window to bolster their defence.
Alderweireld is one of the top centre-halves in the Premier League over the past few seasons following his move from Atletico Madrid.
The 29-year-old is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2018-19 season unless Spurs decide to activate a clause in his contract.
Spurs have the option to extend Alderweireld’s deal by an extra 12 months but the Belgian centre-half will be available to sign for £25m.
However, Manchester United have been linked with other defensive targets in recent weeks to suggest a move for Alderweirled won’t happen.
Belgian reporter Terreur believes Manchester United aren’t interest in Alderweireld at the moment.
“It will take a big offer to lure him away,” Terreur told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“I can see only five or six clubs in the world can afford his fee. Man United aren’t looking for a centre-half any more – apparently.”
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last season to finish above Spurs and Liverpool FC.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last season.
