The Manchester United manager reacts to Anthony Martial's decision to leave their tour of United States
Jose Mourinho has insisted that he was kept in the loop on Anthony Martial’s decision to leave Manchester United’s tour of United States.
The France international has jetted back to Paris to be present at the birth of his first child with partner Melanie De Cruz.
Martial, who already has a daughter Toto with his ex-wife Samantha, has been linked with a potential move in the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old is believed to be attracting interest from Premier League title rivals Chelsea FC ahead of the new Premier League season.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also rumoured to be in the market to sign the French forward this summer.
Martial has struggled since Mourinho’s appointment as Louis van Gaal’s successor back in May 2016 following his impressive debut campaign in England.
Asked about the France international’s decision to leave the tour of USA to fly to Paris to be at his partner’s side, Mourinho said:
“I found out that Martial was going to Paris when he told me.
“Was two or three days ago.
“When it is personal reasons, everyone analyses that the way they think is the correct way and when a man is going to be a father in this case, it’s the second time he is going to be a father, and he decides is very important for him to go, nobody has the right to stop him to go.”
Manchester United have signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and veteran Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant in the summer transfer window so far.
The Red Devils finished in second spot in the Premier League table last season.
