Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale, according to a report in England.

Manchester Evening News, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that Manchester United turned down the chance to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo in favour of a move to sign the Wales international.

The same article claims that the Red Devils have entered into advanced talks with Bale over the past few weeks as Manchester United look to complete the marquee signing.

According to the same story, Julen Lopetegui’s appointment as Zinedine Zidane’s replacement has failed to convince the 28-year-old that he has a future at los Blancos.

Bale came off the bench to score twice in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win against Liverpool FC in the Kiev final to leave his mark on the showpiece.

The Welsh forward spoke out about his future following his substitute appearance to fuel speculation that he is set to leave this summer.

The Real Madrid star has won four Champions League titles, the La Liga crown and the Copa del Rey trophy since his £85.3m move from Tottenham Hotspur in the 2013 summer transfer window.

Manchester United have signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred and FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot so far this summer.
