La Liga expert gives latest Man United transfer update on Gareth Bale
La Liga expert Rik Sharma hints that Man United target Gareth Bale could remain at Real Madrid this summer
Gareth Bale could remain at Real Madrid despite interest from Manchester United following Zinedine Zidane’s exit, journalist Rik Sharma has claimed.
The Wales international has been tipped to leave the Champions League winners in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Bale struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in the Real Madrid team under Zinedine Zidane in the 2017-18 season.
However, the 29-year-old put himself in the shop window with a brilliant performance from the bench in the Champions League final.
Bale scored twice to help Real Madrid to ease to a 3-1 win against Liverpool FC in the Champions League showpiece.
Zidane stood down as los Blancos manager following their European triumph to offer Bale a lifeline at The Bernabeu.
Former Spain head coach Julen Lopetegui controversially took over the reins of Real Madrid earlier this month.
La Liga expert Sharma appeared to suggest Manchester United’s hopes of signing Bale could have been dashed by Zidane’s exit.
“Zidane leaving is good news for Bale staying at Madrid,” Sharma told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“He only started one game in the Champions League knockout stage and was taken off at half-time. It was made clear Zidane doesn’t trust Bale. Whoever comes in, it has to be good news for Bale.”
Bale moved to Real Madrid in a £85.7m deal from Tottenham Hotspur in the 2013 summer transfer window.
Manchester United signed Chile international Alexis Sanchez in a swap deal from Arsenal back in January.
