Souness urges Mourinho to make 29-year-old third Man United signing
The Liverpool FC legend was impressed with Ivan Perisic's performances at the World Cup amid interest from Man United
Graeme Souness has backed Manchester United’s pursuit of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic in the summer transfer window.
The Croatia star was close to a move to Old Trafford from the San Siro outfit last summer but Manchester United couldn’t agree a fee with Inter Milan.
The World Cup star has been linked with a switch to Manchester United this summer, particularly since his impressive performances in the World Cup.
Jose Mourinho is thought to have renewed his interest in Perisic after the attacker’s influential displays at the World Cup after Croatia reached the final.
Perisic scored Croatia’s equaliser in a 2-1 extra-time win over England to set up a final meeting with France in Moscow.
The Inter winger netted his national team’s equaliser at 1-1 in the World Cup final before les Bleus eased to a comfortable 4-2 victory.
Former Liverpool FC captain Souness believes Perisic would be a great addition to the Manchester United team ahead of the new Premier League season.
“I can see why Jose Mourinho is so keen to bring the Inter Milan midfielder to Old Trafford,” Souness told beIN Sports.
“Manchester United would be a much improved side with him in their line-up.
“With his contribution against England when he scored one and had an assist, Perisic has now been involved in 10 goals at major tournaments for Croatia [six goals, four assists].
“That tells you plenty about his pedigree.”
Perisic has scored 29 times in 107 league games over the past three seasons at Serie A giants Inter Milan.
The Croatian winger has previously played for Borussia Dortmund, Wolfsburg and Club Brugge in a journeyman career so far for the winger.
