Website Metro, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that Manchester United are set to turn the attentions elsewhere after giving up on a deal to sign Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale.
The same article states that Mourinho wants to spend the rest of his transfer budget on a centre-half and a back-up striker for the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.
According to the same story, the Red Devils boss wants to prioritise signing a centre-half due to his concerns over Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.
Manchester United have already signed Brazil international Fred in a £52m deal from Ukrainian Premier League champions Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have also completed a £17m switch for Portuguese defender Diogo Dalot to improve his options at full-back ahead of the new Premier League season.
The 20-time English champions finished in second place in the Premier League table last season to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final last season.
