Duncan Castles confirms Man United want to sign proven Italian defender
Sunday Times reporter Duncan Castles claims Man United want to sign Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci this summer
Leonardo Bonucci is on Manchester United’s transfer wishlist this summer, Duncan Castles has revealed.
The Red Devils are in the market to sign a centre-half to improve Jose Mourinho’s defence ahead of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.
Chris Smalling and Phil Jones both struggled to find consistency, wile summer signing Victor Lindelof was underwhelming in the Red Devils side.
Even Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly saw his high standards nosedive, although injuries may have contributed to his poor form.
Bonucci completed a lucrative moved to AC Milan from Serie A champions Juventus last summer after the San Siro were taken over by a Chinese consortium.
However, Milan could be forced to offload Bonucci to raise funds to satisfy Uefa’s financial fair play regulations.
Sunday Times reporter Castles believes Bonucci is one of a number of targets that Manchester United want to improve their defence.
“Bonucci is one of several candidates that Man United have listed to strengthen at centre-half,” Castles told the Transfer Window podcast.
“So that is one we should pay attention to this week.”
Manchester United signed Bailly in a £30m deal from La Liga side Villarreal in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The Red Devils spent another £30m sum on Sweden international Lindelof to sign the defender from Benfica last summer.
