Manchester United are ready to splash a £50m transfer fee on signing Harry Maguire from Leicester City this summer, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mail is reporting that the Red Devils are ready to spend big on bringing the 25-year-old defender to Old Trafford this summer as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his options at the back ahead of next season.

Maguire earned plenty of praise for his strong performances for England at the World Cup as Gareth Southgate’s men reached the semi-finals of the tournament in Russia.

Should Manchester United really pay £50m to land Maguire, it would be more than triple the £17m fee Leicester paid to Hull City to sign the defender last summer.

According to the same story, the Red Devils will face a struggle to sign Maguire this summer, because Leicester City’s owners will fight hard to keep hold of him.

Another obstacle is the fact that the summer transfer window closes early on 9 August this year, and England’s players will have only just returned from their holidays at that point.

Manchester United are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings still this summer as Mourinho looks to assemble a squad that can win the title next term.
