Duncan Castles rules out Man United signing top 25-year-old midfielder
Manchester United won't add Marco Verratti to Jose Mourinho's squad this summer, according to Sunday Times reporter Duncan Castles
Duncan Castles has ruled out Manchester United signing Marco Verratti in the 2018 summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are keen to improve their options in the middle of the park in the current transfer market.
Belgium international Marouane Fellaini is set to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of this month.
Manchester United veteran Michael Carrick has also moved over to the coaching staff following his retirement.
The Red Devils have already signed 5ft 8ins Brazilian midfielder Fred to improve Jose Mourinho’s options in midfield.
Reports over the past week have suggested that Paris Saint-Germain could offer Verratti as part of swap deal for Paul Pogba.
Sunday Times reporter Castles believes Verratti doesn’t fit the right profile to partner Fred in the middle of the park next term.
“I would be surprised if Mourinho was to countenance a cash plus player deal for Verratti,” Castles told the Transfer Window podcast.
“Verratti isn’t the tallest of midfielders and he has already signed Fred. Fred will be a starter. I can’t imagine a Mourinho midfielder with two dimunitive midfielders.”
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last season to secure their best finish since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
