Lazio respond to speculation linking 23-year-old with Man United switch
Lazio are under no pressure to sell Manchester United target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to the club's president
Lazio have insisted that they are under no pressure to sell Manchester United target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer.
The Serbia international has established himself as one of the most coveted midfielders in the Italian top flight during his spell at Lazio.
Milinkovic-Savic scored 12 times and made three assists in 35 games in Serie A last season to attract interest from Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old underlined his pedigree in Uefa competitions with two goals and three assists in Lazio’s Europa League campaign before their exit in the knockout stage.
Reports on Tuesday suggested that Juventus had pulled out of a deal to sign the Serbian playmaker due to Lazio’s inflated price tag.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been linked with a host of playmakers in the summer transfer window as he looks to improve his options in the middle of the park.
However, Lazio president Claudio Lotito is adamant that the Serie A giants are under no pressure to cash in on Milinkovic-Savic.
“We don’t have to sell in order to buy, that has to be made clear,” Lotito is quoted as saying by the Daily Express.
“We have interest in our players from some of the big European teams, it seems everyone wants our players.”
Manchester United have signed Brazil international Fred in a £52m deal from Ukrainian Premier League champions Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have also added Diogo Dalot in a £17m deal from FC Porto this summer.
