Jose Mourinho makes Man United decision about 28-year-old
The Manchester United boss is prepared to sell Matteo Darmian in the summer transfer window, according to a report
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he is prepared to allow Matteo Darmian leave Manchester United this summer.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Red Devils boss is set to allow Darmian to quit Old Trafford if Manchester United receive a suitable offer for the full-back.
The same article states that Serie A champions Juventus remain interested in the versatile Italian defender as Darmian looks to end his nightmare at Old Trafford.
According to the same story, Darmian is eager to leave Manchester United to secure regular first-team football in the 2018-19 campaign.
Manchester United have already added more depth to their full-back options in the current transfer window to push Darmian further down the pecking order.
Speaking about the Italy international’s future during their pre-season tour of United States, Mourinho said:
“Darmian is a fantastic guy and a tremendous pro. He’s the kind of guy who is always ready to give what he has.
“For him to play against his childhood club and be captain has a nice meaning.
“But he wants to leave and I think when a player wants to leave if the right offer arrives you have to be human and let the player follow his instincts, but not at any price.
“Until now the offers we have got for Matteo are not even close to being accepted.”
Mourinho signed promising 19-year-old Portuguese defender Diogo Dalot in a £17m from FC Porto at the start of the summer transfer window.
However, the talented full-back is currently sidelined with a knee problem and isn’t expected to be fit until the start of September.
Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia suffered an injury setback in pre-season training to leave Mourinho short on options at right-back.
The FA Cup and Premier League runners up have also signed Brazil midfielder Fred and Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant.
