Manchester United are closer to a deal to sign Nico Gonzalez after his FC Barcelona contract expired, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish outlet Sport, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is reporting that the Red Devils are close to being able to complete a deal for the 16-year-old wonderkid this summer.

According to the same story, Manchester United are the “best placed” team to sign the teenager this summer as he looks set to leave Camp Nou.

FC Barcelona are said to be “alarmed” at the rate at which they are losing top talent from their Academy.

The same articles says that should Gonzalez leave FC Barcelona, he would be the fifth youth product to turn down a future at the Nou Camp for elsewhere after Pablo Moreno, Robert Navarro, Adria Bernabe and Joel Lopez.

Manchester United are believed to still be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as the Red Devils look to assemble a squad capable of winning the Premier League next season.

The Red Devils ended up in second place in the Premier League table and without a trophy in Jose Mourinho’s second campaign at the Old Trafford outfit.
