The 29-year-old is facing an uncertain future at Tottenham Hotspur after the Belgian star made just three appearances in 2018 so far.
Spurs are rumoured to have offered Alderweireld a deal worth £130,000 a week during the 2017-18 season but the Manchester United target wants £180,000 a week.
Alderweireld’s current deal will expire at the end of next season but Spurs do have the option to extend the Belgium international’s contract by an extra 12 months.
If the north London side do so, former Atletico Madrid defender Alderweireld would be available next summer in a cut price deal of £25m.
Alderweireld was partly at fault for France’s winner after Samuel Umtiti glanced a header past Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Sky Sports News reporter Bridge believes Manchester United do retain an interest in Tottenham star.
“Man United did want Alderweireld,” Bridge told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“It remains to be seen if they want him as much.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the Red Devils.
Jose Mourinho’s side ended up in second place in the Premier League table last term to secure their best finish since the Ferguson era.
