The Red Devils are rumoured to be in the market to sign a new centre-half in the summer transfer window following a mixed 2017-18 season.
Manchester United signed Lindelof in a £30m deal from Portuguese side Benfica last summer but the Sweden international struggled.
Tottenham are rumoured to have offered Alderweireld a deal worth £130,000 a week during the 2017-18 season but the Manchester United target wants £180,000 a week.
If the Spurs star was to get the contract he desires, Alderweireld would be the best paid player ahead of England stars Harry Kane and Dele Alli, as well as playmaker Christian Eriksen.
Alderweireld’s current deal will expire at the end of next season but Spurs do have the option to extend the Belgium international’s contract by an extra 12 months.
Sky Sports News reporter Sheth believes Manchester United remain interested in a deal to sign the Belgian defender this summer.
“Man United look like they’re in the market for a centre-half,” Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“Bailly wasn’t getting much of a game. Mourinho cited the reason that Bailly didn’t have a World Cup to fight for. Lindelof joined last summer. He didn’t get as many appearances as people expected.
“If Alderweireld was made available, that would be the one Man United would go for.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge of the Red Devils.
Alderweireld’s current deal will expire at the end of next season.
