Reporter gives Man United transfer update on Toby Alderweireld
Sky Sports New reporter Michael Bridge explains why Man United ended interest in Toby Alderweireld
Manchester United have cooled their interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, according to Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move to sign a centre-half in the summer transfer window to improve Jose Mourinho’s defence.
Manchester United have been linked with a move to sign the Belgium international from their Premier League title rivals.
Alderweireld has 12 months left to run on his current deal to raise the possibility of the former Ajax star leaving on a free transfer next summer.
Tottenham could activate a clause in Alderweireld’s current contract that would ensure the 29-year-old remains at White Hart Lane until 2020.
However, Spurs risk losing the former Atletico Madrid defender in a £25m deal next summer if they do activate the clause in his contract.
Sky Sports News reporter Bridge shed light on Manchester United’s dwindling interest in Alderweireld in the current transfer window.
“We understand the only club in for Alderweireld was Manchester United and they couldn’t agree a price,” Bridge told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“As we stand, we don’t know where Alderweireld’s future lies.”
Manchester United signed Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly in a £30m deal from La Liga side Villarreal in the 2016 summer transfer window.
Mourinho recruited Swedish defender Victor Lindelof in a £30m deal from Portuguese outfit Benfica last summer.
Manchester United have signed Fred and Diogo Dalot in the current transfer window.
