Manchester United are playing hardball over Toby Alderweireld's transfer fee, according to a report
Manchester United are “playing hardball” with Tottenham Hotspur in negotiations to sign Toby Alderweireld, according to a report in England.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer of the Belgium international after his impressive spell in the Premier League.
The same article states that the Red Devils have held preliminary negotiations with Spurs to sign the contract rebel this summer to bolster their defensive options.
According to the same story, Tottenham are demanding £50m for the former Atletico Madrid defender despite Alderweireld being available of £25m next summer due to a clause in his contract.
Manchester United, the Daily Mail is claiming, are willing to play hardball with Tottenham’s notoriously tough negotiator Daniel Levy over a deal to sign Alderweireld.
The Red Devils have signed Brazil and Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred in a £52m deal to improve their options in the middle of the park.
Manchester United have also signed Portuguese outfit Diogo Dalot in a £17m deal from FC Porto in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils completed a surprise move to sign England veteran goalkeeper Lee Grant in a £1.5m deal from Stoke City.
