Toby Alderweireld is Manchester United’s top transfer priority this summer, according to reports in the media.

Website 90min is reporting that Jose Mourinho has earmarked the Tottenham defender as his prime target this summer as he bids to try and add to his rearguard options ahead of next season.

Alderweireld has been strongly linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, but the same story says that Spurs are desperate to try and keep hold of the Belgium international.

However, it is also claimed that the 29-year-old centre-half has emerged as Manchester United’s top transfer target as they look to bolster their squad ahead of next season.

The same story says that Mourinho considers Alderweireld to be the “perfect” addition to his defence ahead of next season.

Mourinho is aiming to assemble a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season after the Red Devils ended up in second place and without a trophy last term.

Manchester United have already completed three new signings this summer after having tied up deals for Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant.

The Red Devils have not won the Premier League title since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
