Gary Lineker sends message to Arsenal supporters about Arsene Wenger
The Match of the Day presenter is known for his presence on Twitter and used the social-media platform to alert Arsenal fans to an alarming statistic
Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to inform Arsenal fans that they never lost their opening two games under Arsene Wenger.
Wenger left the club in the summer after 22 years at the club, and despite many lows at his time, he never failed to take a point from Arsenal’s two opening games.
Unai Emery has achieved exactly that, and Lineker, a former-Spurs player and usually contrary on Twitter, jumped at the chance to remind Arsenal fans of the sorry stat.
Lineker tweeted: “Arsene Wenger never once lost the opening 2 Premier League games of the season during his tenure at Arsenal.”
Arsenal opened up the season with a 2-0 home loss to champions Manchester City last weekend, and then went down 3-2 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday evening.
Emery has a monumental task following up the club’s most revered manager, as he will gradually try and unpick Wenger’s legacy at the club to implement his own ideas.
Wenger received a huge amount of criticism during the latter stages of his tenure at the club, as the club failed to win a league title since the 2003/04 season.
Lineker spent three years at Arsenal’s arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur between 1989 and 1992 and is clearly relishing Arsenal’s poor start to their life after Wenger.
