Lee Dixon raves about new Arsenal signing Lucas Torreira
The former Gunners right-back gave his verdict on the Arsenal new boy after he came off the bench in the 3-2 defeat to Chelsea FC
Lee Dixon has praised new Arsenal signing Lucas Torreira who he believes had a great impact after coming off the bench during the Chelsea FC defeat.
The Uruguayan international came on at half-time for Granit Xhaka and made an instant impact in tightening up Arsenal’s midfield.
Dixon was impressed with Torreira and believes the defensive-midfielder needs to start if Arsenal are to buck their two-game losing streak.
“Torreira was a massive difference as soon as he came on. He needs to play,” Dixon told NBC.
Torreira joined Arsenal from Sampdoria in a £27m deal in July as new boss Unai Emery looked to strengthen a lacklustre midfield unit.
He was a big part of the Uruguay squad which reached the quarter-finals in this summer’s World Cup in Russia, having only made his international debut in March against Czech Republic.
Arsenal have been missing a holding player who breaks up play after the relative lack of success of Swiss international Granit Xhaka and Egyptian international Mohamed Elneny.
Torreira is relatively inexperienced having only broken through in Serie A in the 2016/17 season but in those two years, he only missed two league games for Sampdoria.
Arsenal will be hoping he can translate his World Cup form into the Premier League, and Dixon believes that he is well on his way to doing so.
