Alex Iwobi sends message to Arsenal fans about Unai Emery
The Arsenal midfielder urged patience with boss Unai Emery after his lost their opening two league games for the first time since 1992
Alex Iwobi has reassured Gunners fans that his Arsenal teammates are enjoying life under new boss Unai Emery despite the fact they have yet to pick up a point this campaign.
The Gunners went down 3-2 at Chelsea FC on Saturday, but their performance was a marked improvement on last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat by Manchester City.
Iwobi himself got on the scoresheet in a topsy-turvy game where neither side totally convinced.
However, the Nigeria international suggested his side are not worried by the result.
Iwobi told BBC Sport: “We enjoy training, everyone is buying into his ideas.
“It all takes time, a new manager, a new system and the fans and players know that.”
Arsenal’s players initially struggled to make sense of their defensive assignments which saw Chelsea score twice in the first twenty minutes through Pedro and Álvaro Morata.
However, going forward they cut through Chelsea with similar ease to the Blues, however they lacked the ruthless finishing of their opposition as they missed chance after chance.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan bucked the trend with a cool finish from outside the box, and Iwobi himself equalised to turn the game on its head.
Ultimately Arsenal could not capitalise as Marcos Alonso hit a late winner for Chelsea, but Iwobi and his teammates will know they improved vastly on last week’s visit of City.
He and his side will try and take another step forwards this week and get off the mark next Saturday against West Ham.
