Unai Emery identifies where Arsenal need to improve
The Arsenal boss was quick to alleviate criticism on his sides display in the 3-2 loss at Chelsea FC on Saturday evening
Unai Emery outlined the improvements his side need to make after a sloppy display saw them allow easy goals and spurn multiple chances in the defeat at Chelsea.
Arsenal’s display left a lot to be desired on a day which ended with many ‘what-ifs’ despite coming back from 2-0 to level before half-time.
However, Emery refused to single anyone out and explain the line of progression he wishes his side to make.
Emery told BBC Sport: “The attacking moment is all the team and the defensive moment is all the team.
“We need to be more compact.
“We need a lot of work together and it is my responsibility first, to give this compact block and to give this attacking balance.”
Chelsea FC were 2-0 up after 20 minutes after poor organisation and discipline from Arsenal saw their defenders dragged out of position all too easily allowing Chelsea in behind at will.
Despite levelling the game before the half, the north London side missed three easy chances of note in the same time period which could have seen them leading at the break.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang skied a simple tap-in when Chelsea were only 1-0 up and the Blues went down the other end.
Alvaro Morata took full advantage of Arsenal’s high line as he got in behind Shkodran Mustafi and doubled the lead.
The lack of discipline in defence and ruthlessness going forward is a real concern for the Gunners as they try to hang on to the coat-tails of their rivals and Emery is right in saying that they have a lot of work to do to stay with the pack.
