Lee Dixon sends patient message to Arsenal fans about Unai Emery
The player-turned-pundit believes it will take time for Arsenal to get used to new boss Unai Emery’s style of play.
Lee Dixon believes it will take time for Arsenal players to get used to style and formation that Unai Emery is trying to implement.
Emery left Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and took over at the Emirates Stadium from Arsene Wenger after the Frenchman spent 22 years at the helm.
And Dixon has asked for the patience of fans and players alike as Emery tries to change habits and processes which have been formed over two decades.
Dixon told NBC: “It’s going to take time.
“It will take time in order to get the right formation and play the way Emery wants to play.
“There are positives but a few negatives.”
Arsenal lost 3-2 at Chelsea FC on Saturday and found themselves 2-0 down after 20 minutes as Chelsea all-too-easily carved them open.
First, Jorginho played in Marcos Alonso down the left flank who squared it for Pedro to slot underneath an advancing Petr Cech and then Alvaro Morata turned Shkodran Mustafi inside out to double Chelsea advantage.
Arsenal got themselves back into the game with two quickfire goals before half-time but the defensive frailties were there for all to see.
Dixon has urged patience as Emery’s methods will take time to implement, but optimists will see a marked improvement from the performance against Manchester City last weekend when Arsenal lost 2-0 at home and were comprehensively outplayed by the champions.
