Marcos Alonso makes admission about facing Arsenal under Unai Emery
Marcos Alonso admits that Chelsea FC struggled to contain Arsenal at times during their 3-2 win over the Gunners
Marcos Alonso has admitted that Chelsea FC struggled to contain Arsenal at times during their narrow 3-2 win over the Gunners on Saturday evening.
The Blues managed to snatch a 3-2 victory over the north London side at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening as they made it two wins from their opening two Premier League games.
Arsenal are currently getting used to life under new manager Maurizio Sarri after his appointment as the club’s new manager back in May.
The Spanish boss is aiming to implement his own style of play at The Emirates after Arsene Wenger decided to step down at the end of last season.
Alonso and his Chelsea FC team-mates were one of the first sides to come up against the new-look Arsenal on Saturday and the Spanish full-back has admitted that it was not an easy task.
Speaking to Chelsea FC’s website, Alonso said: “They [Arsenal] have good players, they have the quality and we saw that if we don’t press and don’t stick together it is not easy.
“We just gave them too much space and didn’t press at the right times after losing the ball.
“That gave them time to play and counter-attack. They have the quality and the speed to give us troubles, but we came back strongly in the second half and it is a very important three points for us.”
Chelsea FC will be looking to make it three wins in a row on Sunday when they travel to Newcastle United in the Premier League.
The west London side finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season as they missed out on a spot in the Champions League, but they did manage to win the FA Cup.
