Lucas Torreira opens up on Arsenal life under Unai Emery
Lucas Torreira says he and his Arsenal team-mates are adapting well to life under new boss Unai Emery
Lucas Torreira says that he and his Arsenal team-mates are enjoying getting used to life under new boss Unai Emery at The Emirates.
The Gunners have been adapting to life under the Spanish manager following his appointment as the club’s new boss following Arsene Wenger’s decision to step down at the end of last season.
It was a baptism of fire for the new Arsenal manager in the Premier League as the Gunners slumped to back to back defeats by Manchester City and Chelsea FC in their opening games of the season.
However, the north London side finally claimed their first top flight win of the season last weekend as they secured the three points against West Ham United thanks to a 3-1 victory at The Emirates.
Torreira, who signed for Arsenal from Sampdoria this summer, has made substitute appearances in Arsenal’s opening games of the campaign.
And the Uruguay international says that he and his team-mates are gradually beginning to understand what Emery is asking of his players at the north London club.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal Player, Torreira said: “I’m one of the newer players and I’ve just joined up with the squad.
“There are a lot of young players and we’re working very hard, with a lot of intensity. We’re getting to grips with what the coach wants from us and I think we’ve played some good football in the past few games.
“We got our first win which was massive for us, but there’s a long road ahead and a lot of games to play, so the best thing for us now is to rest up, focus on our next game and concentrate on our preparation, which is vital.”
Arsenal will look to make it back to back wins in the Premier League when they travel to Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon.
