Unai Emery sends message to Mesut Ozil after Arsenal loss to Chelsea FC
Unai Emery insists that he is happy with what he has seen from Mesut Ozil at Arsenal so far this season
Unai Emery has insisted that Mesut Ozil remains a crucial part of his plans at Arsenal despite the Gunners’ stuttering start to the new season.
Ozil has started both of Arsenal’s Premier League games so far this term but has been unable to prevent the north London side from slipping to back to back defeats by Manchester City and Chelsea FC.
The German playmaker netted his first goal of the season on Saturday as he scored in the north London side’s 3-2 loss to Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge.
The 29-year-old has regularly been criticised for his mixed displays for Arsenal in recent seasons but he will now be hoping to become a regular fixture in the first team at The Emirates under Emery.
And the new man in charge at Arsenal has insisted that he has been happy with what he has seen from Ozil so far since he took over at the north London club.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Saturday, Emery said: “We need him. He helps us with his quality and also I want to push him to be competitive in every match.
“I am happy with Mesut because he worked hard. I decided to change it because I think we needed a little more of a push in the middle, so that we couldn’t let Chelsea progress easily with the ball.”
He added: “I am happy with Mesut. With him I am going to do the same work, help him and demand also that he works every day.
“At the moment he is doing that and I am happy. In the process, he is one player that I am sure is going to have a good season.”
Arsenal will look to notch up their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon when they host West Ham United at The Emirates in the top flight.
The Gunners finished in sixth place and without a trophy last term.
