Lucas Torreira fires warning at Arsenal team-mates
Lucas Torreira warns Arsenal that they have plenty of room for improvement this season
Lucas Torreira has warned his Arsenal team-mates that they must step their game up if they want to seriously challenge for a top-four finish this season.
The north London side picked up their first Premier League win of the season on Saturday as they came from a goal down to seal a 3-1 victory over West Ham United at The Emirates.
Torreira came off the bench to help Unai Emery’s side notch up their first Premier League points of the campaign after back to back defeats by Manchester City and Chelsea FC.
The Uruguay midfielder will be hoping to hold down a spot in the first team at Arsenal in the coming weeks and months as he looks to win the trust of Emery at The Emirates.
And Torreira has insisted that he and his team-mates still have plenty of work to do if they are to try and challenge for the title this season.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Torreira said: “We had some good spells in the first two games against top sides in City and Chelsea.
“We played well and took the positives from those games to prepare for today.
“It was a tough match today – we fell behind but we turned it around, scored three goals and played really well at times.
“This win will give us a confidence boost so now it’s about continuing to improve and continuing to work hard as a team – that’s the most important thing.”
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
The Gunners finished in sixth place in the table and without a trophy last term.
