Lucas Torreira speaks out about failing to start for Arsenal
Lucas Torreira is hoping to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Arsenal in the coming weeks
Lucas Torreira has insisted that he is not worried about his continued absence from the starting line-up since his move to Arsenal this summer.
The Uruguay midfielder has been getting used to life at The Emirates after having signed for the north London club from Sampdoria in the summer transfer window following Unai Emery’s appointment at the north London club.
Torreira has been named on the bench for Arsenal’s opening three Premier League games of the season against Manchester City, Chelsea FC and West Ham United.
However, the 22-year-old has insisted that he is not concerned about his lack of playing time at The Emirates since his move to the north London club, and vowed to keep working hard to continue to try and earn a spot in the first team.
Asked if his substitue appearance in the 3-1 win over West Ham might secure him a start next time out, Torreira is quoted as saying by Metro: “Let’s hope so!
“You train hard, you give your all and you want to improve. I want to start but any time I get on is very important for me.
“For me the best thing is to be able to help my team, as I did today coming on in the second half, and we were able to get the win for our fans, who really deserve it.”
Torreira will be hoping to start for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to Cardiff City.
The north London side have not won the Premier League since their famous unbeaten triumph back in 2003-04.
