Unai Emery explains Mesut Ozil absence for Arsenal
Unai Emery reveals that Mesut Ozil missed Arsenal's 3-1 win over West Ham due to illness
Unai Emery has revealed that Mesut Ozil missed Arsenal’s 3-1 win over West Ham United on Saturday due to illness.
The 29-year-old German was not involved as the Gunners claimed their first three Premier League points of the season under their new boss at The Emirates.
Goals from Nacho Monreal, an Issa Diop own goal and a strike from Danny Welbeck claimed the victory for the home side as they got their first Premier League points on the board.
Ozil missed the game and there had been suggestions that the German had had a training-ground bust-up with Emery before the game.
However, the Arsenal boss denied those claims when asked about Ozil’s absence in his post-match news conference on Saturday afternoon.
Asked about Ozil missing the game, Emery replied: “It isn’t true, that information.
“I don’t know who started it. If you ask me, the doctor, or the club. He was sick. He left training because he was going home.
“He was sick. Today he was here. I said come if you feel better and he felt better. Before the match he was with the team and with me. No problem with the player. Ask the doctor, he can explain better.”
Arsenal will look to make it back to back wins in the Premier League when the Gunners take on Cardiff City away from home next Saturday.
The north London side are looking to try and break back into the top four at the very least this season after having missed out on Champions League qualification for the last two campaigns running.
