Paul Merson sends stern warning to Arsenal about Aaron Ramsey
The Arsenal legend wants to see the Gunners keep Aaron Ramsey at the north London side
Paul Merson has warned Arsenal that they can’t afford to lose Aaron Ramsey.
The Wales international has entered the final 12 months of his current contract with the north London side.
Ramsey will be free to leave on a free transfer next summer unless the Gunners can convince the versatile midfielder to sign a new deal.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a potential switch to Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC over the past couple of months or so.
Arsenal lost Jack Wilshere on a free transfer this summer after allowing the England international to run down his contract at The Emirates.
Former Arsenal star Merson has urged the north London side to secure Ramsey on a new long-term contract.
“Arsenal can’t afford to lose him,” Merson told Sky Sports’ The Debate.
“He is their best finisher out of the midfield players they’ve got. He usually gets into double figures. If they get rid of him they have to replace him.”
Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot.
The Gunners lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid in the Eurppa League semi-final last term to miss out on a first European trophy under Wenger.
Unai Emery took over the reins from Wenger at Arsenal back in May after he led Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title last term.
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 and have finished outside the top four in the last two campaigns.
