Unai Emery has confirmed that new Arsenal signing Lucas Torreira will make his debut against Serie A side Lazio in Stockholm this weekend.

Torreira moved to Arsenal from Sampdoria in a £26m deal in the summer transfer window to bolster Emery’s options in the middle of the park.

The Uruguay international impressed during the World Cup in Russia as he helped his national team reach the quarter-finals.

Torreira received rave reviews for his performance in Uruguay’s 2-1 win over Portugal in the World Cup round of 16.

The defensive midfielder will be tasked with reinforcing Emery’s midfield alongside Switzerland international Granit Xhaka.

Torreira has returned from a prolonged break after his participation in the World Cup in Russia following a long season in Serie A.

Emery confirmed that Torreira is in line to make his first appearance for the north London side in their pre-season friendly against Italian giants Lazio in Sweden this weekend.

Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot.

The Gunners lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid in the Eurppa League semi-final last term to miss out on a first European trophy under Emery’s predecessor Arsene Wenger.
