Alan Smith makes Mesut Ozil prediction for Arsenal v West Ham
Smith doesn't expect Unai Emery to drop Mesut Ozil for Arsenal v West Ham
Alan Smith doesn’t believe Unai Emery to drop Mesut Ozil for Arsenal’s home clash against West Ham on Saturday.
The Gunners have lost their opening two Premier League games following defeats by defending Premier League champions Manchester City and bitter rivals Chelsea FC.
Ozil was replaced at half-time of their 3-2 loss to Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea FC side to highlight Emery’s ruthless streak following his appointment as Arsene Wenger’s replacement.
The 29-year-old has struggled to find consistency over the past few seasons but still managed to secure a new contract worth a reported £350,000 a week.
Arsenal will welcome the Hammers to The Emirates this weekend after Manuel Pellegrini’s side lost their opening two Premier League fixtures, too.
Former Arsenal striker Smith believes Ozil will start against West Ham at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
“I’m not predicting Ozil will be dropped. His attributes might actually suit a contest requiring imagination when the visitors drop back to defend in numbers,” Smith told the Evening Standard.
Arsenal signed experienced Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus at the start of the summer.
The Gunners have also brought in Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £20m deal.
The north London outfit have also brought on Greece international Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.
Lucas Torreira became the fourth addition at The Emirates last week before Lorient teenager Matteo Guendouzi finalised a move.
