Danny Murphy has warned Maurizio Sarri that he will need to improve Chelsea FC’s defensive frailties.

The Blues have conceded four goals in their opening three games under the former Napoli manager.

Chelsea FC suffered a 2-0 loss to defending Premier League champions Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley.

The Blues responded with an impressive 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in their Premier League opener at John Smith’s Stadium earlier this month.

Chelsea FC surged into a 2-0 lead in the opening half hour of their London derby on Saturday thanks to goals from Alvaro Morata and Pedro Rodriguez.

The Blues surrendered control of the derby clash after Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi levelled the Premier League tie before half-time.

Chelsea FC emerged victorious courtesy of Marcos Alonso’s winner but questions remain about their defence under Sarri.

Former Liverpool FC star Murphy believes the Italian manager will need to work on improving the Chelsea FC defence.

“Sarri is looking to implement a very attacking style, but I think we’ve already seen how easily Chelsea can be opened up and their defensive frailties this season,” Murphy told bWIN.

“Chelsea would never get opened up so easily under [Antonio] Conte and Mourinho so that’s a balance that needs to be addressed if the club is to be successful. You can’t win trophies if you’re leaking goals.”

Chelsea FC finished in fifth spot in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League place.

The Blues signed Napoli star Jorginho, Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and veteran English goalkeeper Rob Green.
